Getting Back on Track: Why I'm Doing the ProLon 5-Day Program

Disclaimer! I do not get kickbacks from ProLon is any way, shape, or form.

We've all had seasons where life gets busy, stress takes over, and our healthy habits slowly slip away. My loss of control had to do with convenience food way too often, because well, they are convenient! Processed crap that didn't sit well in my stomach, but I ate it anyway. NOT every day, but often enough to make a difference. Over the past few months, I've noticed more inflammation, increased muscle and joint tension and disrupted sleep disrupting my days. I do this program usually about once a year, usually for the same reason. We are not perfect human beings, but eating as close to perfect as I can makes me feel good in my body both emotionally and physically. So here we are.

What is ProLon?

Developed by Valter Longo, a longevity expert... ProLon is a five-day, physician-developed, plant-based nutrition program designed to put the body into a fasting-like state while still providing carefully measured nourishment. Instead of complete water fasting, participants eat specially formulated soups, nut bars, olives, teas, and other plant-based foods that provide a very low number of calories while maintaining a specific balance of nutrients. The goal isn't simply weight loss. The program is designed to temporarily reduce the body's nutrient-sensing pathways, allowing many of the biological processes associated with fasting to occur while making the experience more manageable than a traditional fast.

What Happens During the Five Days?

The first day provides approximately 1,100 calories, while Days 2 through 5 provide about 700–800 calories each. Because calories are intentionally limited, many people experience hunger during the first couple of days before their bodies begin adapting. Participants are encouraged to stay well hydrated, get adequate sleep, keep activity light, limit caffeine, and avoid adding extra foods.

What Does the Research Show?

Clinical studies have reported improvements in weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, insulin sensitivity in some individuals, and certain inflammatory markers. Research is also exploring fasting-related cellular repair processes, but these findings are still being studied. ProLon is not a cure or treatment for disease, and lasting benefits depend on long-term healthy lifestyle habits.

Why I'm Doing It

For me, this isn't about fitting into a smaller pair of jeans. It's about creating a pause. I want to reduce inflammation, quiet food cravings, and reconnect with the way I feel when I'm nourishing my body with whole plant foods. After the five days, I plan to return to a whole-food, high raw plant-based diet rich in vegetables, fruit, beans, intact whole grains, potatoes, and healthy fats from foods like flaxseed and walnuts.

Is ProLon Right for Everyone?

No. It is not appropriate for everyone. People who are pregnant or breastfeeding, children, those who are underweight, or individuals with certain medical conditions or eating disorders should not use it without medical guidance. Anyone taking medications, especially for diabetes or blood pressure, should consult their healthcare provider first.

My Takeaway

I don't see ProLon as a destination. I see it as a bridge back to eating less inflammatory, moving my body, sleeping well, managing stress, and living intentionally. Sometimes we don't need a drastic life overhaul—we simply need a structured opportunity to begin again.

Such a well-written and balanced review, Cori! I really like your idea of creating a "pause" to quiet cravings and reset your body's baseline. It takes a lot of self-awareness to notice those subtle changes in sleep and inflammation and take intentional action. Out of curiosity, how do you usually manage the lower-calorie days while staying productive at work?
